A badger is a short-legged omnivorous mammal that appears in the Shelter series as its first protagonist and mascot. There are both adult and cub variants of the animal.
Appearance
With its small head, thick neck, wedge-shaped body and short tail, it can be assumed that Shelter's badger is the European species, or a similar Shelter-universe equivalent. Its coat is often brown in colour, with various striped patterns.
In Shelter, the badger has an underbite and a more defined nose. Their eyes are also thinner, and more slanted.
In Meadow, the underbite has been fixed and the badgers' eyes shrunk.

In Meadow
The badger is featured in Meadow as two playable avatars: an adult badger and a badger cub. The latter is available to all players from the beginning of the game, making it the default avatar.
The badger cub is the smallest, slowest animal available and calls in distinctive, dog-like "yips". It has twelve emotes, ten skins, and a unique howl ability unlocked with purchase of a soundtrack. Its emotes are suspended on a blue background.
The badger is a medium-sized animal of average speed, similar in physical appearance to its younger counterpart. It calls in a variety of grunts and has ten skins and emotes. It, too, has a unique howl ability. Its emotes are suspended on a white background.
